Saturday January 23rd marked the first Northeast Rebreather & Advanced Diving Technology Workshop which was organized by Ocean Opportunity Inc. The event was hosted by URI’s Center of Excellence in Undersea Technology. More than 80 people attended the full-day program. Among them included representatives from a variety of academic and private research institutions, folks from the NOAA Dive Program, regional dive safety officers, reps from NOAA’s Office of Ocean Exploration in Washington DC, commercial dive school trainers/operators, and technical dive instructors. The event included five speakers (Eliot Danner, Mark Munro, Jeff Godfrey, Dave Sutton, and Chris Cooper (on behalf of Dick Cooper), and the opportunity to get an up close look at several makes/models of current rebreather technologies.

Again, many thanks to the event’s sponsors; COEUT, Ocean Edge Outfitters/rEvo Rebreathers, and Rebreatherworld.com. Thanks to their generous support, students were able to attend the event at no cost.

The feedback received thus far has been overwhelmingly positive, with requests for a repeat event next year. Please stay tuned as future events unfold. Any/all donations to Ocean Opportunity help support the development of related events, field opportunities, and exploration programs.

Thank you in advance for your continued support.
