'A New Life in the Sea' by Michael LombardiMy last post discussed the perspective that all of our forays to the deep blue were a ‘vacation’. With opportunities like going out to eat at an underwater restaurant, or a stay at an underwater hotel as read about in a recent CNN piece, that vacation idea might not be too far off.

I can honestly say that I’ve never had the opportunity for the former, nor the latter, but making these opportunities more readily accessibly for the masses is just one step in the right direction for creating a higher appreciation of our blue planet and living the life aquatic. Getting water behind one’s ears may not be for everyone at this point, but it remains an infallible truth that our watery planet is expanding – and our terrestrial planet shrinking somewhat.

As we’ve discussed here before, less land and more people means we either build up (to the sky), or down (underwater). In both cases, these major lifestyle changes may well drive the continued evolution of our species. I don’t expect to wake up with gills – at least not in my lifetime – but I envy those who will…
