OO disburses annual endowment funds

It is with great pleasure that we announce the first funds disbursement from our endowment program. Established in 2008, our endowment program ‘The Legacy of Exploration’ was formed to provide a conduit for supporters to provide ongoing and perpetual support to Ocean Opportunity, while simultaneously granting annual fund disbursements to organizations or charities on behalf of a loved one.

This year marks our first disbursement year, with funds being administered to charities from two of our funds:

The 1LT Gregory Zavota Memorial Fund
On behalf of the Zavota family, we are administering funds in memory of Gregory Zavota. He achieved incredible accomplishments in his twenty four years. His attributes included; Eagle Scout, lettered athlete, track captain, mission volunteer, graduate of West Point with a degree in aeronautical engineering, and a Black Hawk pilot. More significantly, Greg was a person of amazing strength and character. Funds administered are in support of projects and programs that demonstrate this character and commitment to helping others.

The Matthew Johnston Charitable Fund
In 2003, we teamed up with Matt Johnston to start the ‘Diving a Dream’ project. The effort marked the 3 year journey which enabled Matt to become the world’s first ventilator dependent quadriplegic diver; making tremendous strides for adaptive scuba, and folks living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The project was featured on NBC’s Today Show in 2007. Today, we are working to keep Matt’s legacy alive via management of this Fund.

Disbursements will be made annually, and indefinitely. Named and anonymous funds are possible. Please contact us to discuss the benefits and mechanics to establishing a fund with Ocean Opportunity Inc.
