NAFI Rhode Island hosts first 'Green Day' event

Providence’s ‘Ocean Opportunity’ chosen as students’ environmental charity of choice

Ocean Opportunity, is proud to announce its participation in the North American Family Institute’s (NAFI)-Rhode Island’s first ‘Green Day’ event on February 12, 2009. Ocean Opportunity was selected as NAFI Rhode Island’s environmental charity of choice for this program.

Green Day is a collaborative event including multiple schools and programs within NAFI’s Rhode Island Network. The This event will showcase several products created by student/ teacher teams working side by side together in an effort to help educate others on simple, yet and effective ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Each team has designed, created, and produced a product that serves to meet the needs of the everyday consumer who thinks globally and acts locally. These teams will present their product on Green Day using a tri-fold board explaining the process of creation, as well as the practical use of their merchandise. Each team will also make a commercial to be presented to our guests for the event. Each individual student will document their experience through a reflective writing artifact. All of the products made by the Green Teams will be available for purchase following the students’ presentations. Guests are encouraged to view the students work and purchase one of these as a functional reminder of the simple ways we can reduce our have a lesser impact on our the environment.

While the ultimate goal of Green Day is to educate and inform on environmental issues, the event will also serve as a fundraiser for the environmental charity of the students’ choice. This helps to encourage students to give back to the community. Ocean Opportunity of Providence was selected as the benefitting non-profit organization.
